Mrs. Barbara Ford Kronholz

In March of 2025, The HighArt Foundation, in partnership with the FSU College of Music, launched The HighArt Vocal Competition. The Barbara Ford Kronholz prize was established in honor of the impact she has had in the lives of so many young musicians. We invite you to join us in honoring the memory of Mrs. Ford Kronholz and continuing her legacy of pouring into the next generation of young vocalists.  Mrs. Barbara Ford Kronholz, Associate Professor of Voice, received the B.M. and M.M. degrees from the University of Michigan and has won acclaim as a recitalist by her performances throughout the United States, Germany, Italy, and the former Soviet Union. She appeared as soprano soloist at the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, made her New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1974, and has performed a recital at the National Gallery of Art. Mrs. Barbara Ford Kronholz has appeared in leading opera roles and is equally at home in the field of French Art Song, German Lied, and contemporary vocal literature. She joined the faculty of Florida State University in 1972.

Throughout my life, I have had the guidance of people who believed in my gift, before I was completely aware of what God had given me. Mrs. Barbara Ford Kronholz

was my undergraduate vocal teacher at Florida State University. The love and care that she took with me, while helping to develop my craft has stuck with me my entire career. She was very instrumental in making sure that I gained knowledge and experience on my musical journey.
